Shopping Facilities

For your convenience, Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) provides shopping facilities as described below:

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is a story of love and commitment. It grows from strength to strength everyday. The secret of its success lies in the labour, hard work, and dedication of the many volunteers who manage the shop with unwavering commitment to the cause of the poor. Over the last several years, a large number of deserving patients have been treated through patient welfare funds generated by the Gift Shop. As such, the Gift Shop is not merely an enterprise; it is a cause that takes wings from the smile on the faces of the patients it helps.

Snack n Things Shop

The volunteer-managed and operated Snacks ‘n' Things started in May 1995 with the aim of providing good quality food at an affordable price, primarily for AKU students, but also for faculty and staff.

The venture has been very successful due to the efforts of the numerous volunteers who give many hours of their time every day serving food at Snack n Things. Not only do they provide a much needed service on campus, they also help meet our important humanitarian objective by contributing the net proceeds to AKU's Patients Welfare Programme.

Flower Shop

From humble beginnings in 1987, the Flower Shop has developed into a well-run enterprise. What makes the Flower Shop at the AKU unique is that it is a totally volunteer-run activity, and the only reward for those who run it is the comfort of a satisfied customer and the medical care the sale of flowers provides to the indigent patients. The Flower Shop has done floral arrangements at campus seminars (both local and international), convocations, and other programmes held on campus. The floral talent of the ladies behind the Flower Shop has been recognised beyond the walls of the University as reflected by orders from private and business clients.

The Flower Shop also stores and sells many gift items that go along with the flowers and bouquets.  

Dining Services  

The Department of Nutrition and Food Services provides a broad range of services to faculty, staff, students & visitors at AKUH campus. Following are the eateries available for dine-in & take away.

Main Dinning Hall

Meals are available during breakfast, lunch and dinner for staff, students,visitors,attendants and faculty. Apart from ala carte dishes, staff meals are also available. Various varieties of snack items, desserts and confectionery items are also part of the regular service served at specified timings. Hot and Cold beverages including tea, cappuccino and soft drinks are also available.  

Professional Dinning Hall (PDH)

Staff meals are available during Lunch for staff, students and faculty. Apart from staff meals, ala carte dishes are also available. Various varieties of desserts, cakes and cold drinks are also part of the regular service.  

Community Health Sciences (CHC) Cafeteria
Staff meals are available during lunch for staff, students and faculty. Apart from staff meal, ala carte dishes are also available for attendants. Various varieties of desserts, cold drinks and confectionery items are also part of regular service. In the grill section of CHC, variety of take away and dishes are available.

Days/Hours of Operation:
Monday to Friday 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM (for Lunch only)
Monday to Sunday 6:00 PM – 10:45 PM (for Dinner, exclusively for all AKU Students and Residents)

CHC Snack Corner
Light snacks and hot and cold refreshments are available.  

Location: Community Health Centre Courtyard  

Days/Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Special Cakes and other confectionary items

Nutrition and Food Services Department (NSFD) offers freshly prepared cakes, pastries, cookies and other confectionary items on order. Birthday or special occasion cakes are also available.
