Admissions
Under its charter, Aga Khan University is open to all academically qualified candidates. The University is non-denominational and admission to its academic programmes is needs-blind and based strictly on merit. Candidates are expected to complete a formal application form, including a personal statement, giving their reasons for wishing to enrol in the Programme and submit it with their transcript(s) and letters of reference. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to participate in an interview.

Financial Assistance
Through its Financial Assistance Programme, the University ensures that no individual qualified for admission to the Institute will be excluded because of inability to pay tuition, living expenses and other costs.
Such assistance will be provided through loans or scholarships to supplement personal resources. Assistance is based upon the evaluation of a student’s need from financial data provided by the student. Unless otherwise stated, every student is expected to make some contribution towards their fees/living expenses.
Eligibility
The following criteria will apply in the selection process:
- A first degree (minimum 4 years of study) of good standing* from an accredited university or equivalent qualification (preferably in the humanities or social sciences)
*Typically a 2.1 Honours equivalent in the British system or a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.3 out of 4.0
- Depth of understanding of, and appreciation for, the study of Muslim societies
- Ability to appreciate the humanities and its relevance to the study of Muslim cultures
- If short-listed, students will be required to take an English language proficiency test administered by AKU-ISMC. Students must pass this test in order to qualify for the Programme.
Fees per Annum
The annual tuition fee from September 2009 is £10,165. In cases where a student withdraws from the Programme, tuition for the entire term will be charged. Tuition fees can be paid by installment as follows:
- 1st installment: 15 September 2009 - £2541.25
- 2nd installment: 2 January 2010 - £2541.25
- 3rd installment: 1 April 2010 - £2541.25
- 4th installment: 1 July 2010 - £2541.25
