Clientele
The Ordinance provides full credit and recognition in
Pakistan of Aga Khan University Examination Board
certificates awarded for achievement up to the higher secondary level of education or its equivalent. It provides the option of AKU-EB examinations to government schools in federally administered territories and cantonments as well as to private candidates and students in non-government schools in Pakistan. The Ordinance also allows AKU-EB to extend its services to government schools in the provinces, subject to approval by the provincial governments, and abroad.
From its first examinations onwards, AKU-EB intends to serve a cross-section of schools. English-medium and Urdu-medium schools established by charitable bodies and those in the private and government sectors will all be represented in the first batch of affiliates, which will serve both rural and urban areas and extend from Karachi to Hunza and from Turbat to Lahore.
The aim is to spread best practice from school to school. In the early years, the majority of affiliated schools will be of proven effectiveness. In affiliating schools from the private sector, the emphasis will be on school systems with well-established in-service training facilities for teachers. A key element of partnership with such systems is that they extend their training facilities to neighbouring single-site schools.
Within these constraints, affiliation with AKU-EB is entirely voluntary.
